HUNTINGTON -- Hurricane High School boys soccer had four first-team selections on the Class AAA all-state team selected by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Zach Montebell, a senior forward who had 30 goals for the Redskins, was joined on the first team by senior goalkeeper Noah Blackhurst, senior midfielder Cameron Keenan and senior defender Ryan McWatters.
Blackhurst was in goal for Hurricane during a 20-match win streak that ended with a loss to Huntington High in the sectional finals.
Patrick DeMoss, a Huntington High senior defender, and Cabell Midland senior midfielder Tyler Kennedy also received first-team recognition. Kennedy had seven goals and four assists for the Knights.
Players selected for the all-state second team included Huntington High junior midfielder Bill Jones and Hurricane senior midfielder Brooks Paine.
Brooks Nucilli from Fairmont Senior was picked to captain the first team. Nucilli, a senior forward, scored 49 goals and recorded 20 assists for a state tournament team.
Nucilli was one of four players to earn repeat selections on the first team. Others were Wheeling Park forward Josh Henderson, Martinsburg midfielder Aaron Anderson and Parkersburg defender Zach Higginbotham.
All-state forward Tanner Robinson from Washington High was a 30-goal scorer and Parkersburg forward Brian Runyon scored 21 goals for the state champions.
Spencer Griffey of Parkersburg was the other first-team goalkeeper. State runner-up Woodrow Wilson placed midfielder Jonah Moore and defender Tony Serge on the first unit.
Tommy Brunswick, a defender from Bridgeport, was picked as the second team captain.
