Bears Beat Bridgeport Indians
BRIDGEPORT — Fairmont Senior’s boys’ basketball team hit key foul shots down the stretch to hold off Bridgeport, 48-42, to win its season opener Wednesday.
It was the first win for the Polar Bears in Bridgeport since the 2003-04 season.
Ty Garrison scored 16 points to lead the Polar Bears. He was the only FSHS player to reach double figures.
Ryan Sevier and Jonathan Logan both added nine, Andrew Marra had eight and Logan Moore chipped in six in the victory.
The Polar Bears let a 10point, third-quarter lead slip away but Garrison went 4-for-4 from the foul line with under two minutes to go in the game to seal the win.
Jerome Axton led the Indians (0-1) with 18 points before fouling out.
The Polar Bears (1-0) will play in the Brooke tournament on Friday at 6 p.m.
