Swimmers Compete at Parkersburg Invitational

FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior’s swim teams had another solid outing at the Parkersburg Penguin Invitational.
The Polar Bears failed to win a single event, individual or relay, but had enough strong finishes to nab third place overall with 349 points.
Bridgeport cruised to the team title, rolling up 614 points, nearly 250 more than the closest competitor. Parkersburg was second (370), while Buckhannon-Upshur (331, fourth) and Elkins (233, fifth) rounded out the top five.
Fairmont Senior’s 200 medley relay of Erica Amos, Daren Wadsworth, Brionna Minney and Sarah Cover was second with a time of 2:05.79. Tessa Gardner joined Minney, Cover and Clark for a second-place run in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.19). Another Fairmont Senior group — comprised of Courtney Bright, Autumn Hansen, Lindsey Hearn and Alexandrea Murray — took fifth (1:58.61) in the same event.
In addition, Amos, Gardner, Clark and Zela Wyrosdick placed third in the 400 freestyle relay (4:13.99). Wyrosdick also was second in the 500 freestyle (6:02.58) and fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:18.44).
Hansen was fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:12.20) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (2:21.69), Wadsworth was fourth in the 200 IM (2:35.64), Minney was fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:09.81) and Clark placed sixth in the 100 freestyle (1:02.56).
East Fairmont also had a top 10 girls’ finisher in Sarah Marsicano, who took sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:13.10).
On the boys side, Andrew Bonasso took fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.21) and 100 freestyle (52.41), Alex Petry, meanwhile, was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.32) and eighth in the 100 freestyle (59.44), The 200 freestyle relay squad of Petry, Bonasso, Jacob Wells and Logan Demyon was third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.68).
Both Fairmont Senior and East Fairmont will take part in the Buckhannon Invitational on Saturday.
