Bears hang with Mohigans

MORGANTOWN — The Fairmont Senior girls' basketball team, back on the court after a round of winter weather, hung tough with Morgantown in a 49-44 road loss Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears, who suffered a 68-50 loss to the Mohigans in their most recent game Feb. 13, had a much better showing this time around.

They led by four, 31-27, at the half before Morgantown (13-7, 11-3 in NCAC) found some breathing room with a 15-6 third-quarter run.

'We played well,' Fairmont Senior coach Ashley Reed said. 'To beat a team like Morgantown, we had to play better defense (than last Saturday). They made some shots, but they had to work for it.' Katie Nunan and Kaitlinn O'Neal each had 15 points to pace the Polar Bears, while Brooklyn Little added seven points.
